My group consisting of 3 people was assigned to present on simple non linear models by Martinec, R & van Leeuwen, T. What is a good document? Good writing and document design makes a good document. A good document design makes reading by interested readers easier, captures those who are not interested and emphasizes on the most important parts of the document. In my opinion, good writing can be acknowledge when readers find the article of the piece of document simple to understand. This however does not mean that writer can throw in anything into their document as viewers judge the professionalism of a writer based on his or her work. There are many principles to writing which shows the level of professionalism, seriousness and discipline which can affect the reputation of the writer either in a good or bad way.
The presentation my group did was on how ideas and messages can be conveyed using different ways such as given and new model, ideal and real model, the tree model, the table model, the star model and the network model. These models helps emphasize on the main important ideas either in an advertisement, an article, a webpage and etc. Simple non linear models, according to Martinec and van Leeuwen are basically diagrams that are used to map out the conceptual structure of texts or domains and further explain how these texts or domains are understood.
However, there are some improvements that can be made. I think that there were too many examples. Limit to maybe maximum 2 examples per category.
The layout of this slide is not so appropriate. There are too many words are may bore the audiences. A heading should be inserted so that the audiences are aware of what we are talking about.
Clearer examples should have been used. It was hard to see this picture when is was projected through the projector. Important points should be highlighted to put more emphasis so that the audience is aware. Other than that, I think we did a good job when it came to the colour of the slides, the font of the words the placing of the words and pictures as we were learnt in lecture before presenting the slides.
